Optimism for 2014

I am pleased to report that there has been an excellent start to the year which gives us a great sense of optimism for 2014.

Up till the end of February, 12 properties had exchanged hands for just under £31m. The best comparison for these first two months is 2010 where the same number of properties were sold but for the lesser sum of £15.5m – that year went on to be a very good one with 81 properties exchanging hands by the year end. At the time of writing (late March) Swoffers have 9 more properties (ranging between £1m – £3m) signed unconditionally and awaiting completion before mid-year and, with 3 more sales agreed awaiting signature, the good news continues.

Sales have not been our only good start to the year. Our excellent tally of 40 Open Market rentals in 2013 has been followed with a very positive beginning to the year with 14 new Open Market tenancies being agreed and signed during the first 11 weeks alone!

And so to this issue of ‘Guernsey Open Market Property’ which showcases, amongst others, a number of new properties including some spectacular farmhouses, a beautifully renovated home with sea views and direct access from its gardens onto cliff paths and a gorgeous renovated home with a royal connection set in just under 2 acres of private gardens where King George V, Queen Mary and H.R.H Princess Mary lunched in 1921.

Thankfully, Guernsey is still an oasis of safety in a troubled world which remains a very attractive selling point. I certainly hope that those who seek homes on our shores will appreciate its charm and come to love it as much as I do.
