Craig Whitman, who was appointed as an Open Market negotiator five years ago, joins the board of the record-setting agency, alongside Managing Director Matthew Henry and fellow Directors Shauna Clapham and Spencer Noyon. “We are delighted to appoint Craig to the board. He has repeatedly demonstrated his effectiveness and ability to match the needs of vendors and buyers in the Open Market sector. Adding his business flair at board level makes our management team stronger than ever,” said Matthew Henry. He added that he believed it was essential for Swoffers to continue to move forward. “We are one of the island’s oldest-established estate agencies and have always held a prominent place in Guernsey life. Swoffers handles, by far, the greatest proportion of Open Market property conveyances each year. Moving with the times means expanding to meet growing needs and Craig’s appointment is another indicator of our determination to continue to work at the highest level.” Craig, who was born and brought up in Cape Town, South Africa, now considers Guernsey as home. He is extremely pleased to become part of the management structure of a business as effective as Swoffers. “I intend to contribute as much as possible to the continued success of the agency as it plays a pivotal part in the lives of many people who are searching for a new home and change in lifestyle. Not being local and having to integrate into the Guernsey community myself, I can identify with most of our Open Market applicants who are considering making Guernsey their base. What I can say, based on first hand experience, is that my wife and I have been wonderfully received and accepted by the Guernsey people. It’s been a fantastic and easy move.” Craig not only relishes work within Guernsey’s business environment, but also enjoys the sporting and social opportunities the island has to offer. He has worked internationally and is now happily settled here with his wife, Lucy, and two young daughters. He added that “Guernsey has a stable social structure and continued economic growth which makes it even easier to be positive about the island. The growing attraction that Guernsey has to offer is a way of life with benefits that other destinations and jurisdictions can only dream about.”
